Why is This Guy a Cheater?

June 4, 2010

R.B.  is well-known for overdoing everything the hard way.  Gives him some sort of bone-weary sick pleasure.  He’s all about his own aches and pains index.  If he’s not sore the next morning, yesterday was a bust.  Must be why he so enjoys hauling and chopping wood, tending a smoker all night… So why would [...]

Looks Like We’re Riding into the Rain, Again

May 28, 2010

Tomorrow morning Bob and I head east to Tellico Plains, TN, for another big ride in the Smokies.  It’s Memorial Day weekend and it’s raining — here in Nashville and there, where we’re going.  And between here and there as well, I think.  50-50 chance it’s going to keep raining.  Of course it is.  It’s [...]

Love this drift wood

Saffron

April 26, 2010

We’ve posted these pictures in memory of Jeanne-Claude Christo,  collaborator and wife of artist Christo.  Her memorial service was held at the Met on April 26, 2010.  R.B. and I were in New York for the unfurling of their Gates project in Central Park in 2005.  We loved it.  Thank you.

Today,  I’m making a batch of Nashville Crossroads BBQ Sauce and Cheater BBQ Slaw.   R.B.’s got the Ultimate Cheater Pulled Pork ready to [...]

So how often do you think you'll use that stove top smoker?

April 7, 2010

Here we go again,  another stove top smoker story about how we can all make barbecue in the kitchen with one of these boxy contraptions.   Oooooh, it’s so much easier than outdoor barbecue!  Do you really want to store one of these things in the kitchen?  You can’t even fit the soccer balls in [...]

Fancy Food Journalist Outs her Love of Liquid Smoke

March 27, 2010

Finally a noted food journalist,  Regina Schrambling, whose byline we’ve read  everywhere from the New York Times to the Los Angeles Times and in all kinds of food magazines,  has come clean on her love of liquid smoke in this recent story about oven beef brisket.  She even goes as far as calling liquid smoke [...]
